The Great New York City

New York city is the most populous city in the United States.  It’s one of the world’s leading commercial, financial, and cultural centers, and has about 7.5 million people.  The city is the headquarters of many major corporations and the leading national T. V. and radio networks.  New York is the headquarters for the United Nations, and has many of the world’s tallest buildings.  The first sky scraper-the Flatiron building was completed in 1902 while God’s prophet lived and predicted their destruction by fire. New York has many Universities, and is the undisputed culture center of the United States, having many famous museums, and the most important center for theater production in the United States.  There are Time Square, Broadway, Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic, and the Julliard School for performing arts.  On the upper east and upper west sides of Manhattan, there are great millionaires, and high fashion society.

At the same time, New York is the closest thing to a living hell I’ve ever seen.  It gives you the creeps.  You’re in danger just being there.  Woe be to anyone whose car breaks down in certain parts.  A lady in such a situation may be found dead in a ditch.  I’ve spoken in SDA churches in New York City at least five times.  The elder whose home I stayed in had three locks on the doors and bars on the windows.  Only God can protect them.  All night long you hear sirens, screeches, honks, and people cursing, laughing, crying, screaming.  The next-door neighbor said ”There was a party down the street last night.  It was a block away.  The base was so loud that my bed vibrated and moved around the floor all night.”  The prophet saw balls of fire falling, and skyscrapers burning like pitch.  That’s not far off.  A truck driver friend of mine drove through the city with his tractor-trailer truck.  He saw people on the street walking around naked, having sex, and some of them jumped on his truck naked while he had to sit there waiting for a red light.  He was in the jungle of deepest, darkest Africa.  His eyes got real big, his heart pounded, and he stepped on the gas of his giant truck to get shed of the clawing beasts as fast as he could.

The SDA elder had locks and bars on his doors and windows.  But I learned that in the middle of the night, the hoodlums come with a giant four-wheeled drive with giant tires and hook a giant chain to the strong bars on your door.  They hook it to the back of their jungle vehicle. Then they back up, and give the chain a slack, and they race across the street; the chain pops tight, and your whole door with the bars and part of the front of your house flies out into the street.  The beasts rush into your home and take whatever they want.  Then they’re gone and disappear into the blinking jungle before anyone in there can call the police, if they’re still alive.

…The place is going to be destroyed.  Only God knows when. It’s going to be in the fire.  It’s going to be roasted.  It’s going to be turned to ashes.  One of the elders got shot in the chest when he came out of the church while waiting for the bus.  Another elder called Sabbath morning and said that he just found a dead man in his front yard.

Because of the great wickedness of these great cities God will destroy them as He did Sodom and Gomorrah!

“Years ago this scene passed before me as a representation of what would happen in the future.

I saw that costly buildings in the cities, supposed to be fire-proof, would be consumed by fire. The fire that lately swept through Patterson, New York, and the fires that have been in other places, are a fulfillment in part of the warning. Yet God has not executed his wrath without mercy. His hand is stretched out still. His message must be given in Greater New York. The people must be shown how it is possible for God, by a touch of His hand, to destroy the property they have gathered together against the last great day.

A little longer will the voice of mercy be heard; a little longer will the gracious invitation be given, "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink." God sends His warning message to the cities everywhere.”   3MR 310, 311

“Terrible shocks will come upon the earth, and the lordly palaces erected at great expense will certainly become heaps of ruins.

When God's restraining hand is removed, the destroyer begins his work. Then in our cities the greatest calamities will come.

The Lord gives warnings to the inhabitants of the earth, as in the Chicago fire and the fires in Melbourne, London, and the city of New  York.

The end is near and every city is to be turned upside down every way. There will be confusion in every city. Everything that can be shaken is to be shaken and we do not know what will come next. The judgments will be according to the wickedness of the people and the light of truth that they have had.

O that God's people had a sense of the impending destruction of thousands of cities, now almost given to idolatry.

The time is near when large cities will be swept away, and all should be warned of these coming judgments.

 New York City

God has not executed His wrath without mercy. His hand is stretched out still. His message must be given in Greater New York. The people must be shown how it is possible for God, by a touch of His hand, to destroy the property they have gathered together against the last great day.

I have no light in particular in regard to what is coming on New York, only that I know that one day the great buildings there will be thrown down by the turning and overturning of God's power. . . . Death                                                                             will come in all places. This is why I am so anxious for our cities to be warned.

On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold buildings rising story after story toward heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify their owners and builders. . . .

The scene that next passed before me was an alarm of fire. Men looked at the lofty and supposedly fireproof buildings and said: "They are perfectly safe." But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch. The fire engines could do nothing to stay the destruction. The firemen were unable to operate the engines.

A View of Great Destruction

Last Friday morning, just before I awoke, a very impressive scene was presented before me. I seemed to awake from sleep, but was not in my home. From the windows I could behold a terrible conflagration. Great balls of fire were falling upon houses, and from these balls fiery arrows were flying in every direction. It was impossible to check the fires that were kindled, and many places were being destroyed. The terror of the people was indescribable.

God's Efforts to Arouse the People

While at Loma Linda, Calif., April 16, 1906, there passed before me a most wonderful representation. During a vision of the night, I stood on an eminence, from which I could see houses shaken like a reed in the wind. Buildings, great and small, were falling to the ground. Pleasure resorts, theaters, hotels, and the homes of the wealthy were shaken and shattered. Many lives were blotted out of existence, and the air was filled with the shrieks of the injured and the terrified.

The destroying angels of God were at work. One touch, and buildings so thoroughly constructed that men regarded them as secure against every danger, quickly became heaps of rubbish. There was no assurance of safety in any place. I did not feel in any special peril, but the awfulness of the scenes that passed before me I cannot find words to describe. It seemed that the forbearance of God was exhausted, and that the judgment day had come.

The angel that stood at my side then instructed me that but few have any conception of the wickedness existing in our world today, and especially the wickedness in the large cities. He declared that the Lord has appointed a time when He will visit transgressors in wrath for persistent disregard of His law.

Terrible as was the representation that passed before me, that which impressed itself most vividly upon my mind was the instruction given in connection with it. The angel that stood by my side declared that God's supreme rulership, and the sacredness of His law, must be revealed to those who persistently refuse to render obedience to the King of kings. Those who choose to remain disloyal, must be visited in mercy with judgments, in order that, if possible, they may be aroused to a realization of the sinfulness of their course.

Peril to Those Who Remain Unnecessarily

In harmony with the light given me, I am urging people to come out from the great centers of population. Our cities are increasing in wickedness, and it is becoming more and more evident that those who remain in them unnecessarily do so at the peril of their soul's salvation.

1907.     CL 8, 9

I saw an immense ball of fire fall among some beautiful mansions, causing their instant destruction. I heard someone say: "We knew that the judgments of God were coming upon the earth, but we did not know that they would come so soon." Others, with agonized voices, said: "You knew! Why then did you not tell us? We did not know." (1909).  LDE 25

Cities Destroyed by "Balls Of Fire"

In the night I was, I thought, in a room but not in my own house. I was in a city, where I knew not, and I heard explosion after explosion. I rose up quickly in bed, and saw from my window large balls of fire. Jetting out were sparks, in the form of arrows, and buildings were being consumed, and in a very few minutes the entire block of buildings was falling and the screeching and mournful groans came distinctly to my ears. I cried out, in my raised position, to learn what was happening: Where am I? And where are our family circle? Then I awoke. But I could not tell where I was for I was in another place than home. I said, Oh Lord, where am I and what shall I do? It was a voice that spoke, "Be not afraid. Nothing shall harm you."

I was instructed that destruction hath gone forth upon cities. The word of the Lord will be fulfilled. Isaiah 29:19-24 was repeated. I dared not move, not knowing where I was. I cried unto the Lord, What does it mean? These representations of destruction were repeated. Where am I? "In scenes I have represented that which will be; but warn My people to cease from putting their trust in men who are not obedient to my warnings and who despise My reproof, for the day of the Lord is right upon the world when evidence shall be made sure. Those who have followed the voices that would turn things upside down will themselves be turned where they cannot see, but will be as blind men.

These words were given me from Isaiah 30: "Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits." [Isaiah 30:8-15 quoted.] . . . .  11MR 361, 362

I was instructed that light had been given me and that I had written under special light the Lord had imparted.
